Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

I swore off french fries after seeing the movie "SuperSize Me". It was a long, long, LONG time before I could even walk into a fast food restaurant after that. I was traumatized.

People always told me that you'd get more sleep when your kids got older. Now I have teens, and all I have to say is... LIARS!!!

When the kids were little, they loved me to sing in the car. One of their favorites was the “Where is Thumbkin?” song. This created a problem when it came for “Tall Man’s” turn. I’d try to hide my hand into the steering wheel where other drivers couldn’t see it.

One of my fix-it tickets sent to me today had this in the notes: “paper tray will not go into the printer. like a baby which won't open his mouth for peas.” Who says geeks don’t have a sense of humor?

Becoming a mother is a life-altering experience. I never knew the depth of love I could have for another human being until I held my sweet daughter and looked into her eyes for the first time. The moment takes your breath away.

It’s a good thing teens are so darn cute when they’re little babies. Otherwise, I don’t think they’d live past age 15 or so.

HA HA, took me a moment to figure out that comments go under "Jello Jigglers" Cute!

I also had the crushing breath stolen when I held my daughters the days they were born. Powerful stuff.

Yours would live to see 15? My oldest is 10 and I am soooo ready to strangle her some days.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I loved your random thoughts. Geeks have a sense of humor :)

And currently we are struggling to live past the age of seven over here. It's going to be close.

Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah I agree with Andrea and Missy up there. My three year old is already "pushing it"

GreenJello,
I totally agree about the teens! For example, my morning rule is "I will only drive you to school if you are pleasant and respectful." My son was being grumpy and disrespectful yesterday morning but he was already in the car and testing his boundaries. I told him to "get out, you're walking!" and he said "No." Well, he's bigger than me: I couldn't exactly force him, so, instead, I just headed to my office, arrived there, and said "Have a nice day!" He ended up walking a couple of extra blocks.

I don't know about the teens thing. Sprite is pushing her luck already and she's not even looking down on 3 yet!

Well, see, I think this is a male-female thing. I saw "Super-Size Me" and I thought, "Huh. I don't look so bad. Give me some more fries, please!"

As a lifelong lover of Fries, I have to admit that I saw Supersize Me and I wasn't traumatized one bit. I know, that's terrible.

Please don't tell me I won't get more sleep in a few years. Ugh.

I thought I saw someone driving down the road giving me the finger. That was YOU? Thanks a lot.

I've already got one teen, I don't know if I've got the strength to handle the other three waiting in the wings. As soon as one is exiting the teen years the next will be entering, there's got to be a rule against 20 years of teenagers, that sounds like a prison sentence.

Loved the fix-it ticket, great analogy.

sleep? what's that?

Amen sister on the teenager thing.

The cuteness does wear off yet the torture they inflict through the teenage years is temporary.

The consolation is eventually they breed and you get grandchildren. Cuteness reigns supreme!

Oh, my. Those of you thinking your little ones are already pushing it... well, they're just paving the road for future Fun And Games. Don't say you haven't been warned!

Jennifer, you're my kind of mom!

Yes, I'm holding out for the grandkids. Even though that will mean I'm OLD (I remember what I used to think grandparents were!), I'm gonna live it up as much as possible. :)

Oh man, you totally just dashed my hopes of ever getting a decent night's sleep!! I have 2 sets of twins (ages 4 and ages 2) and I keep telling my husband "just wait until their teens...they'll crave sleep which means we'll get to sleep in past 8:00 am on the weekends". Now I know I have been fooling myself.

And I've heard that the teenage years are far more difficult than the toddler years...what do I have to look forward to now? I guess all I can do is pray that at least one of my kids has twins as well and then that'll be where I'll find my pure joy!

Found you through RTT...love your sense of humor!!

I agree wholeheartedly about the teen thing!

I refuse to give up french fries. I, too, saw Super Size Me, but I walked away thrilled at the thought that if I accidentally drop a fry between my car seats, it will be good for at least two more months in case I get hungry.

Motherhood is absolute life changing. You really can't understand it until you've done it.

I've always had my doubts about tall man too.

I read Fast Food Nation - it was also a bit rough. I just cant' look at McDonald's the same way.

The Super-Size Me show grossed me out as well. Mason saw it in health at school earlier in the year. He now refuses all fast-food. I wish they would have shown it, oh maybe kindergarten(:

Your random thoughts are so great, thanks for the smiles.

My boys are in their 2o's and I'm menopausal Yep, now I have 2 reasons not to sleep.

children should see that show at the age of 5!!! My kids saw a video on you tube about a guy who put a McD's cheeseburger in his pocket and forgot about it, a year later he put on the coat again and the cheese burger still looked the same as the day he bought it. Now they don't want to eat there!!

They say that mother's of teens know why animals eat their young!

Stopping by for RTT from Keely's. Great sense of humor.

I'm not sure that being cute as a little kid really makes up for the crap you have to put up with as a teenager. Though I think the only reason our kids truly survive is the knowledge that when they get to be parents we can laugh at them when they start complaining about smaller versions of themselves.

Thought you might like this saying:

Raising teenagers is like nailing jello to a tree.

Jaime said...

oh, don't say that! i was holding out hope for the whole more sleep with the kid is older thing... of course, my son is 15 months and still not sleeping through the night. i'd HAVE TO get more sleep later on than i'm getting now

Please don't tell me there is no more sleep in my future than I am getting right now! Please say it's not true!

Keely said...

Why oh why do people keep reminding me that at some point my kid is going to be a teenager??

I've never seen Supersize Me. Fries really aren't my problem. Someone needs to make an equivalent show about dessert.

I hear what you're saying about the fries, but I'll still eat them. Ooh, those fries...

My daughter is only ten and I agree with it being a good thing she was cute. I know it just gets worse for the next few years. At least I have my six year old who is still cute.

CDB said...

Oh NO, please don't tell me that thing about the sleep. I'm banking on that one. So.. more of the same, huh?!

I will never forget the moment that I first looked into my babies' eyes. Last night my toddler woke up and told his dad that he "missed Mama". We're both sick, so I cuddled him until he fell back asleep in my arms. I watched him sleep for a long time before I let my husband take him back to his crib.

Motherhood is hard enough what with the no sleeping. Now we're supposed to parent without french-fries, too?! Bastards.

Rachel said...

Ahahahahaha! I have the exact same problem with "Where is Thumbkin"! I'm not one for swearing, either verbally or physically, so I get a little embarassed. Especially since my girls LOVE that song and are experts at raising the Tall Man. My Tall Man has a permanent hunch and some company from Pointer.

I gotta say--everyone is really scaring me about teenagers. Not looking forward. Good thing I have a ways to go on that.
